Team India’s World Cup squad was announced on April 15 and ever since then, the discussions regarding the selection and non-selection of the few players are going on. Ambati Rayudu not making it to the team surprised many as Virat Kohli, in September last year, had confirmed his place as India’s number four. But Vijay Shankar came out of nowhere and performed well in the limited opportunities to impress the team management and the selectors.

The chief selector MSK Prasad has been at the receiving end on social media after he termed Shankar as a ‘three-dimensional’ cricketer and also cleared that the same reason led to Rayudu missing out. The Hyderabad batsman also took an indirect dig at Prasad on his official Twitter handle stating that he ordered ‘3D’ glasses to watch the World Cup.

Shastri at the receiving end

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri wasn’t even in the picture during all these discussions. But he is always trending on social media irrespective of the performance of the Indian team. This time around, the much-debated batting position, number four, has led to Shastri being trolled hilariously.

On Thursday, Vijay Shankar’s Wikipedia page was edited by an Indian fan with the Indian head coach’s quote while terming Shastri as drunk. “He is better than Ambati Rayudu to play at no.4 in world cup said by Ravi Shastri when he was drunk,” the line read in Shankar’s Wikipedia page. However, within six minutes of a goof-up, the sentence was removed and the page is now in semi-protected mode until May 25 due to vandalism.

This dig was at Shankar as well who is currently plying his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). It seems unfair on him as the all-rounder was the selector and captain’s choice. Vijay Shankar will be determined to perform well at the World Cup and that will be the best reply to the critics.
