The selectors announced the India squad for the T20I series against Australia on Sunday post the team’s victory in Nagpur. They did not include Yuvraj Singh, the hero of both the World Cup wins in 2007 and 2011, once again for the 3-match series. The veteran Ashish Nehra returned to the side as he is now being treated as the T20 specialist at the fag end of his career. The hosts won the 5-match ODI series against the team from down under and reached the pole position in the format.

Ajinkya Rahane was also not considered for the shortest format after an impressive show with the bat in recently concluded series. Suresh Raina has reportedly failed the fitness test once again and hence it was clear that he was not in the reckoning. Shikhar Dhawan made his return to the squad after spending his time with his wife who was unwell during the matches against the Aussies. The T20I series is all set to commence from October 7 at the home ground of MS Dhoni in Ranchi.

Fans question Nehra’s inclusion

However, the Indian fans were not at all amused as Yuvraj Singh was ignored for the series. The swashbuckling batsman is currently not involved in any competitive cricket and was expecting a national call-up albeit in the shortest format. Fans were also fuming over the exclusion of Suresh Raina and also questioned the fitness over Ashish Nehra who was brought back into the side. Other notable omissions from the squad are Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Mohammed Shami.

While some of the fans were not happy with the selection of Kedar Jadhav in the squad, few claimed that Yuvraj had once become the victim of the politics in the Indian team. The selectors have already made it clear that the likes of Yuvi and Raina can both make a comeback but for that, they have to prove their form and pass the fitness test which is mandatory these days. The didn’t pass the test last time around before the Australia series and the national call-up looks a distant dream as of now for them.
