India are scheduled to play three T20Is and as many ODIs from July 3. The Indian team didn’t have an auspicious outing last time they toured the European nation. The first T20I will be played at the Old Trafford in Manchester and the ODI series gets underway from July 12 with the opening match to be played at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue has been jolted with a body blow as Jasprit Bumrah, one of their star bowlers has been ruled out of the ODI and the T20I series owing to a fractured finger. As per sources, the injury sparked during India’s T20I series versus Ireland, which Virat Kohli’s men won by 2-0.

“But he was very good in the Tests in South Africa as well and team management will hope that he gets fit in time for the Test series against England. It’s a big blow for India. Hope his replacement will do a good job of it,” a source was quoted as per reports in The Times of India (TOI).

Replacement announced

Deepak Chahar, who is currently playing for India A in their tri-nation series versus England Lions and the Windies A has been roped in as Bumrah’s replacement. Chahar has been in impressive form in the tournament having picked up 7 wickets in 3 matches with best bowling figures of 5/27. His economy rate of 4.04 also means that batsmen haven’t found it easy to pounce on him.

Meanwhile, Bumrah’s injury won’t make things any simpler for the Indian team. He made his debut versus South Africa in January and translated his limited-overs form in Test cricket. For the time being, while it’s still not known about the time which will be required for his recovery, the Indian management would be hoping for the lanky pacer to attain desired fitness before the Test series in August.
