Indian cricket has witnessed the rise of several phenomenal players and MS Dhoni is definitely one them. Dhoni is one of the finest finishers in the limited-overs format that the game has ever seen. In spite of batting lower down the order for the major part of his career, the legend averages over 50 in ODIs and has turned several matches single-handedly in both 50-overs and T20 matches. Along with his finishing skills, Dhoni’s ability to read the game puts him among one of the most valuable players in the team.

Though his abilities as a finisher are no longer the same, his truckload of experience has certainly benefited Virat Kohli. Dhoni does not accumulate as many runs as he used to but there are still several players around the world who idolize him and wish to emulate his feats. Jos Buttler, the English wicketkeeper is one of the players who rates his Indian counterpart very highly. The 27-year-old has had a change of fortunes since being promoted as an opener for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Credits the IPL for his success

“He’s (Dhoni) always been a bit of an idol of mine, especially his demeanour. I enjoy the way he never looks flustered, and he’s one of these guys who seems to be not out at the end.” Buttler was quoted as saying by sport360.com.

The Englishman has scored 13 half centuries in his last 20 innings across all formats and has admitted that he is the form of his life. He credited the IPL as one of the reasons for his recent resurgence. The hunger to repeat his performances has kept Buttler going and he wishes to maintain this purple patch for long.

Buttler is one of the very few players who has looked comfortable against the Indian wrist spinners. With the ODI series evenly poised at 1-1, English skipper Eoin Morgan will be hoping that the wicketkeeper plays a crucial knock in the series decider. The deciding ODI will be played at Headingley in Leeds on Tuesday.
