Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar offers South African unit to be a part of Buchi Babu tournament
The former India skipper lambasted the manner in which the Proteas have batted in the ODI series thus far.
After a humiliating loss against India in the third one-day International, the South African Team seems to be in real trouble to save the six-match one-day series. Virat Kohli and his men were able to outplay the host in every aspect, drawing the gulf between the number one and number two spot. The real trouble which South Africans have faced till now is facing the spin duo, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have made it difficult for the opposition to score in the middle-overs which eventually makes them play a rash shot. The spin-duo has picked 22 wickets off 30 wickets Indian Team has taken so far, speaks volumes about their consistency. It will be interesting to see how South African Team bounce back to this problem in a short span of time. Further, little master Sunil Gavaskar, who is currently in South Africa has offered Proteas to send a team to participate in Buchi Babu tournament.
Buchi Babu tournament can help South African Team
He believes that exposure of playing spin on the friendly tracks will help their side get rid of this problem, which eventually will help them in future. However, if many think he was being sarcastic, Australia and New Zealand have sent their respective teams in past to participate in this tournament and has helped them to get better than what they were before.
He said “A lot of South African batsmen have paid the price for playing across the line. Not too many batsmen have tried to go down the pitch. Look, when you watch the hand, they [Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal] are not very difficult to pick. Maybe Kuldeep Yadav, when he bowls the wrong one, he is a little difficult to pick. But with Chahal, you can actually see the back of the hand.
“So, what they need to really do in my view is their A team needs to come and play in the Buchi Babu and stay at the spin academy in Chennai and participate. Over there, they will get a much better idea of how to play spin. Even if they are playing against the A’ team or some of the Indian junior team spinners, they will learn how to play spin like how Australia and New Zealand have done,” he added.
