Indian captain Virat Kohli had raised concerns about the lack of preparation time ahead of the important series against South Africa. The men in blue are currently playing Sri Lanka in the Test series and after this, they will take part in the limited overs series before heading to the rainbow nation. But according to former Australian cricketer Dean Jones, India shouldn’t complain.

Jones feels that the Indian cricketers get paid in millions and therefore they should keep playing when they are doing well. India lead the ongoing Test series against the Lankans by a margin of 1-0, going into the third and final Test, starting on 2nd December in Delhi.

India’s tour of  South Africa starts with the first Test in Cape Town on January 5, 2018. It is a three-match series. This will be followed by six ODIs and three T20Is. Kohli had earlier criticized the BCCI and said that they are playing on green wickets to get ready for the Proteas, as there is no time for preparation.

Jones on Kohli’s statement

“I can’t really speak on behalf of Virat and MS (Dhoni). When in form and you are playing well, the season is not long enough. You just want to keep playing,” Jones told “NDTV” today (November 29).

He added, “If you are making runs and winning easily you just want to keep playing. When you are struggling and the team is being smashed, like Sri Lanka at the moment, the season can’t end quick enough.

They need to keep playing: Jones

“If these guys are getting paid millions of dollars a year and if they are going to get millions of dollars then they have to keep playing (every) series so they can recoup their money through television and sponsorships. So they need to keep playing.”
