Captained by Gautam Gambhir, KKR won their first title this year after they ruined CSK’s dream for a hat-trick by winning a high-scoring final against them in Chennai. This edition saw the number of participating teams getting reduced to nine with the termination of KTK. This edition saw the most number of close matches as 19 games were decided in the last over and many even in the last ball.

Highest scorer: RCB’s Chris Gayle scored the most number of runs – 733 – in 14 innings at an average of 61.08.

Highest wicket-taker: South African Morne Morkel who played for DD that year, finished with the most number of wickets – 25 – in 16 innings with the best of 4 for 20.

Most number of sixes: Gayle continued with his 2011 form to hit 59 sixes in this edition. The next highest number of sixes was 20.

Highest individual score: Gayle also topped the list of a highest individual score in IPL in edition five. His 128 not out off 62 balls against DD in Delhi was the best.

Best bowling figure: CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja took 5 for 16 against DC.

Best bowling average: MI’s Dhawal Kulkarni recorded a bowling average of 10.66 in 2 games, the best in IPL V.

Highest team score: CSK’s 222 for 5 in 20 overs against DD in Chennai.

Lowest team score: MI’s 92 against DD in Mumbai.

Biggest victory (by runs): CSK beat DD by 86 runs in Chennai.

Smallest victory (by runs): DD beat RR in Delhi and MI beat PWI in Pune – both by 1 run.

Player of the series: KKR’s Sunil Narine was adjudged as the man of the series with 24 wickets at a rate of 5.47 runs per over.
