Indian spinners feel lucky to have MS Dhoni by their side

MS Dhoni is one of the sharpest minds in world cricket. The former Indian captain is known for maintaining his cool under pressure and is always a help to the youngsters with his insight. Even during tough matches, he always is ahead of the game while batting knows what the bowler is trying to do and on the field can guess what the batsman is upto.

To ensure his younger teammates make most of his tremendous ability to read into the game he never shies away from passing on the message to the bowlers from behind the stumps. Though he gave up captaincy his role in the team has not changed.

Chahal and Kuldeep show

The wrist spin twin of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been brilliantly for India as they have seamlessly replaced experienced duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the shorter formats. The young players always need seniors to help them in tough situations and Dhoni does exactly that. Today the Indian team looked in trouble as Sri Lanka were poised to get to a big score when they were 135/1 at one stage.

From there Chahal and Yadav took control of the proceedings as they claimed 3 wickets each to break the back of Sri Lankan batting. The two complemented each other well as the Islanders looked clueless against them. At the end, the visitors were all out for 215 which is below par.

Impact of MS Dhoni

Both Chahal and Kuldeep had high praises for MS Dhoni as they admitted that the veteran’s advice has proved very useful for them. The chinaman said that Dhoni kept guiding him where to bowl which helped him put the Lankans under pressure. He further added that India is lucky to have someone like MS Dhoni in the team.

“We are very lucky to get him out (Tharanga) at that point of time. The hard-work we put in the nets is really coming off well. I was trying to bowl more in the fuller areas. The ball was turning and it was a slow turner. Mahi keeps telling us where to bowl and we are very lucky to have him in our side. We pulled out well towards the end,” Yadav said in the innings break.

The leg-spinner also admitted that he spoke to Mahi about his bowling. “I spoke to Mahi. I was bowling wicket to wicket and was bowling a bit quicker. I was able to control the drift from the last couple of series. So, I had my areas and know where to bowl. Not an easy wicket to get runs,” Chahal said.
