Along with Farhat another support staff member, Shankar Basu has decided to move on from Indian cricket.
Virat Kohli‘s men bowed out of the 2019 World Cup with a narrow loss to Black Caps. Though the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni held their nerves after initial breakdown they were not able to take the side over the line. It was a sad end to India’s World Cup campaign as the team was expected to topple Kane Williamson’s New Zealand.
Following the game, the Indian team’s support staff heroes had decided to part ways with the Indian cricket including their physio Patrick Farhat. Since the start of this decade, the fitness standards of the Indian team has grown leaps and bounds.
It is clearly visible from India’s skill levels on the field and even in 2019 World Cup Men in Blue was one of the best fielding sides. Though the players should be credited for their discipline some of the credit should also be given to the support staff who are working really hard with the players in the practice sessions.
Supporting staff: The unsung heroes
India did reasonably well with some of their stars getting injured midway of the tournament. During this time team’s physio, Patrick Farhat was the one who was taking care of the players and getting them to match ready before crucial encounters. Many a time even the team’s captain Virat Kohli has been vocal about the contributions of support staff. The July 10 was a gloomy day for India on the field and off the field as one of the team’s backroom heroes decided to move on from Indan cricket.
He announced the news on his twitter account where he expressed his gratitude to BCCI. He also wished India well for their future tours. The Australian joined the Indian bandwagon four years ago and in these years he has improved the fitness regime of many Indian players. He is highly respected personnel in world cricket.
