The Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 will be announced on Monday, April 15, and Star Sports has made special arrangements to broadcast the announcement. It is the first time that the channel has taken such a step. The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) senior selection committee will announce the squad for the tournament which will kick off on May 30 at the Oval with a match between hosts England and South Africa. India will play their first match on June 5, against South Africa in Southampton.
Star Sports has also unveiled a list of special programming as part of the build-up to the big occasion, said a report in InsideSport. The shows will feature former greats from India and other countries in the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir, Paul Collingwood, Brian Lara and others analysing and articulating their opinions on the squad, the probabilities before the announcement as well as analysis post announcement.
The press conference of the squad announcement will be broadcast on Monday and it will be followed by its review. The press conference will be telecast Live on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 Hindi at 3:30 pm. The post analysis will focus on India’s World Cup campaign in detail, prediction of the playing XI and debate on the players’ form. That show will be aired on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 Hindi at 6 pm.
Star Sport’s is the exclusive media partner of the International Cricket Council. All the games of the ICC World Cup 2019 will be broadcast live and exclusive on Star Sports network channels in India.
Kohli seventh captain to lead India at World Cup
Virat Kohli will become the seventh captain to lead India at the World Cup after Srinivas Venkataraghavan (twice); Kapil Dev (twice); Mohammad Azharuddin (thrice); Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who also led twice – in 2011 and 2015.
This is the second time that India will open their World Cup campaign in England against South Africa. In 1999, they had played their first game against the Proteas at Hove and lost the match by 4 wickets.
