A thoroughly entertaining season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end with the Mumbai Indians finishing as the well-deserved winners. It was a last ball thriller that saw MI pip their Maharashtra neighbors Rising Pune Supergiant in the finals. Skipper Rohit Sharma was pleased to see his team register a magnificent win. The cricket action does not stop though. The players will now head England to play the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/champions-trophy-2017-teams-complete-schedule/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ICC Champions Trophy</a>.

Much like many other players, Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma will be heading to England with the national side for the title defense. Team India is the defending champions and they would want to replicate their heroics from the 2013 edition yet again this year. For that to happen, the team would want their big stars to perform right away since India is not having too much of one-day match practice, unlike other teams.

The players will be heading straight to England after having played in the IPL for 2 months. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/icc-champions-trophy-2017-warm-matches-full-schedule-teams-venues/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">India will have 2 warm up matches</a> to get their act together before going into the tournament proper. Skipper Virat Kohli had a very disappointing time in the IPL this season. Compared to his heroics from the last season, Kohli could not replicate his heroics this time around. He played largely like the shadow of his usual self this season. In the 10 matches that he played, he scored 308 runs with an average close to 31.

Albeit the numbers look good for any average batsman, they are definitely under par numbers for the skipper of the team India. Kohli hit four fifties to show good form but succumbed largely on the captaincy front. His team, Royal Challengers Bangalore finished at the bottom of the points table.

Coming into the 2017 edition of the IPL, all eyes were on Shikhar Dhawan. The opening batsman who had emerged as the Player of the Tournament for the previous edition of the Champions Trophy had been struggling with form in the recent times. There were dark clouds over his selection too since his recent form had not been very impressive.

However, Shikhar played exceptionally well for the Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. In the 14 matches that he played this IPL, he scored 479 runs at an average of 36.84 with 3 fifties to his credit. Also, he was a key contributor for the team in the powerplay overs and had a top score of 77 this season.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was a mighty pleased man after his team registered an <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-10-final-review-last-ball-finish-mumbai-indians-lift-ipl-trophy-third-time/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">emphatic win over the Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL final.</a> However, his tournament on the personal front was not very impressive. Rohit had a string of single digit scores this season.

Coming into the tournament, he had the eyes glued to him since he was returning from a long injury layoff. He took some time to settle in. Also, his technique against the spin bowling was largely challenged this year. Rohit showed good form in sporadic spells though. He finished with 333 runs in 17 matches at an average of 23.78 with 3 fities to his name. Two of those 3 fifties came in the losing cause.

Ajinkya Rahane was the seasoned opener for the Rising Pune Supergiant this season. He opened the batting along with Rahul Tripathi for the Rising Pune Supergiant. Much was expected from him but the veteran batsman largely disappointed this season. He was overshadowed by young Tripathi who did bulk of the scoring for RPS this year.

In the 16 matches that Ajinkya played, he aggregated 382 runs with an average just ticking over 25. He batted with a strike rate of 118.26 and had only 2 fifties to his name. In the finals, he came back to good form though as he finished as the second leading run scorer for his team on the night.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni will have all the eyes glued to him in the Champions Trophy this year. The scenes would be no different since he had the spotlight on him this season as well. Dhoni managed to live up to the expectations to a certain extent. He had a couple of exceptional innings to his name this season.

Barring those, he failed to click when the team needed him the most. He hammered an <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-10-ms-dhoni-unleashes-beast-mode-mumbai-indians-qualifier-1/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">unbeaten 40 off 26 against Mumbai Indians</a> in the league stages. Also, he had played a match-winning unbeaten 61 off 34 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. With the gloves, he was ominous in the season. Dhoni amounted 290 runs in 16 matches with an average of 26.36 in IPL 10.

Yuvraj Singh will have to shoulder a lot of responsibility in the middle order for the team India in the Champions Trophy. Yuvraj has been a perennial performer for the Indian team but had an ordinary IPL this year. He managed to score 2 fifties in the 12 matches that he played.

In all, he scored 252 runs at an average of 28 this season. His strike rate was highly impressive though. He batted with a strike rate of 142.37 and looked in commanding positions when onsong. Injuries saw him miss out on some quality action though.

Kedar Jadhav was the player of the tournament when India played England in the ODI series prior to the commencement of the IPL. The Royal Challengers Bangalore side fielded him in the capacity of the wicket-keeper batsman in the IPL this season. Jadhav had a forgettable time behind the stumps as he missed some easy pickings.

With the bat, he had a moment of brilliance against the Delhi Daredevils. He hit a match-winning 69 on the night. Barring that, he failed to make key contributions for the RCB camp and that reflected in the end result of the team. Jadhav scored 267 runs in the 13 matches that he played and averaged just over 22.

Young Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya settled in the role of the finisher for the Mumbai Indians. During the league stages, it was his quick cameo against the Kolkata Knight Riders that saw MI chase 51 runs in the last three overs of the fixture. He batted decently this season but a big score largely eluded him.

In the 17 matches that he played, he scored 250 runs with a strike rate of 156.25 and an average of 35.71 this season. He was good with the ball too and filled up overs for the bowlers who had an off day at work. He will be expected to take the new ball in the Champions Trophy as well.

The only player in the Champions Trophy India squad who was not a part of the IPL this season was Ravichandran Ashwin. A sports hernia saw Ashwin miss out on the tournament. However, he is expected to be back in the starting eleven of the team right away in the Champions Trophy.

Ravindra Jadeja was being tipped to be ruling the Indian Premier League this season. He has been the prime all-rounder for India in the recent times. Also, he will be the key to India&#8217;s campaign in the Champions Trophy. However, his IPL numbers are not very pleasing this year.

Playing for the Gujarat Lions, Jadeja could only muster 158 runs in 12 matches. He has no fifty to boast about in the season. With the ball, the time for him was even more disappointing. In the 12 matches that he played, he picked up only 5 wickets and averaged almost 70 with the ball.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/mohammad-shami-confident-well-champions-trophy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mohammad Shami had a decent time</a> with the ball in the Indian Premier League this year. He even managed to win a player of the match award in one of the league game fixtures. In absence of Zaheer Khan, he was the bowling spearhead for Delhi Daredevils in a few matches.

Coming to the Champions Trophy, he will be the main man for India in the pace bowling attack. Shami scalped 5 wickets in the 8 matches that he played. He gave runs at an economy of almost 10. However, his form is expected to improve in the fifty overs format where he has been quite lethal for the national colors.

Umesh Yadav had a good outing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL this year. He was one of the regular faces in the playing eleven after having missed out the initial bit of the tournament due to an injury. Umesh Yadav finished as the 8th leading wicket-taker this season.

Umesh bagged 17 wickets in the 14 matches that he played this year. He had his best figures of 4/33 which looks very impressive. Despite his economy rate being on the higher side, he was a proven wicket taker with a strike rate of 17.11.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the prime performer for the Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. He won the Purple Cap for the second time in a row. With the kind of performances that he put in, he has certainly given a strong statement for his claim in the playing eleven of team India in the Champions Trophy.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned with 26 wickets to his name in the 14 matches that he played. He bowled with an average of 14.19 and a strike rate of 12.07. Also, his economy rate was as low as 7.05 this season. Bhuvi had the best figures of 5/19 this season.

Jasprit Bumrah has arguably the most impressive young bowler in the Indian team for quite some time now. In the IPL, he was at his peak best with some superlative display of pace bowling. In the tied game against the Gujarat Lions, Bumrah had managed to defend 11 in the Super Over against the likes of Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum.

He had a key role to play in the finals of the tournament as well. Bumrah finished as the third leading wicket taker of the season with 20 wickets to his name in 16 matches. He averaged 22.20 with the ball and bowled with an economy of 7.35. He had a phenomenal strike rate of 18.10.

Gujarat Lions wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik was rewarded for his good show in the recent times with the national call up. Karthik was named as the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/dinesh-karthik-replace-manish-pandey-champions-trophy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">replacement for Manish Pandey</a> in the Champions Trophy squad after the latter was ruled out due to an injury.

Karthik had a decent time with the bat this season. He managed to give good finishes to the Lions and often forged big stands with Suresh Raina in the middle order. In the 14 matches that he played, he scored 361 runs at an average of around 36 with 2 fifties to his name and a strike rate of almost 140.
