India's core team for the World Cup has been finalised: MSK Prasad
He also felt that for a team to do well in the World Cup, there should be a correct mix of experience and youth.
With only more than three months to go for the World Cup in England, the teams are looking for the perfect combination. They are treating the last few ODIs before the event for the experimentation even as April 23 has been set the deadline to submit the squads. Meanwhile, the Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has cleared that the core of the Men in Blue for the World Cup has been finalised.
Team India’s ODI form has been phenomenal recently as they have won in Australia and New Zealand. They have clearly dominated the proceedings and are looking good ahead of the 10-team tournament. Moreover, they will also get the chance to tighten their screws in the upcoming Australia series at home which is also the last for them as the Indian Premier League (IPL) begins on March 23.
We need the right mix of experience and youth
“Like most other teams, we have made up our minds with regard to the core team that will figure in the World Cup,” MSK Prasad said while speaking to the Times of India. Moreover, the chief selector felt that the tournament like IPL will help the players a great deal before the World Cup to get back into their groove.
“The IPL is a major tournament that throws up a variety of challenges. I’m sure the IPL will help players with their form and also keep their mind in good shape ahead of the World Cup,” Prasad added. He also went on to mention that the correct blend of experience and youth is important for a team to do well at the World Cup.
“To win mega events we need to have the right mix of experience and youthful exuberance. I am sure our committee will strike that balance. Youngsters who have reached this level know exactly what is expected of them. In today’s world where players are exposed to so many pressure-filled tours and tournaments prior to getting into the national squads mature faster than players of earlier eras,” MSK signed off.
