Umesh Yadav emerged as one of the strongest points from the recently concluded India Vs Australia Border-Gavaskar series. The India and KKR bowlers feel that India has now found a lethal pace attack which can win matches overseas. However, Yadav also said that the pacers would benefit if a new coach could be hired.
The Vidarbha bowler played 10 of India’s 13 Tests at home, impressing with pace and control throughout. He was particularly outstanding in the final Test against Australia in Dharamsala.
Yadav went on to torment the opposition, taking 5 wickets and signalling that the Indian pacers can wreak havoc in Australia and South Africa as well.
“I think we now have the pace attack to win in these countries,” he told Reuters.
However, there is an issue which the fast bowlers are facing. While the slow bowlers can take help from head coach Anil Kumble, who was himself a spinner, Yadav feels the quicks also need an advisor.
“A fast bowling coach will definitely help bowlers like Ishant, Shami, Bhuvi and myself to improve.”
He further went on to say that when he doesn’t bowl well, he isn’t able to recognise where exactly he went wrong.
“In some matches, I bowl badly and don’t realise what went wrong and how to correct. A fast bowling coach can help us correct our mistakes and improve as a bowler.”
Yadav was lethal against Australia, picking up 17 wickets in total. He revealed that the advice given to him by batting coach Sanjay Bangar did the trick for him.
“I had been bowling short for some time and then Bangar bhai asked me to bowl a much fuller length. He suggested that if I bowl a fuller length, it would give the ball enough time to swing in the air.”
Yadav didn’t play the first two KKR games due to injury but is good to go now.
