Talking about the Indian ODI team, the Men in Blue achieved a lot of success in the 50-over format in the last 10 years. Be it winning the 2011 World Cup or seizing the 2013 Champions Trophy, the Indian team performed extraordinarily well in ODIs. However, they were a few individuals who could not live up to the expectations in the format.

He made his ODI debut against South Africa in Ahmedabad on 27th February 2010. The right-handed batsman received ample amount of opportunities from the selectors.

However, he could not cement his place in the team. With the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir still active in 50-overs cricket, Vijay’s failure to play well took him out of the team. Although he continued to open for India in Tests, he did not earn a place in the ODI team.

He has not played a single ODI match since 2012 which itself showcases his poor form in the format.

His consistent performances in the longest format of the game earned Pujara a call-up to the Indian ODI team in 2013.

However, his ODI career lasted only 5 matches where the right-handed batsman scored 51 runs. His highest score was just 27 whereas his strike rate of 39.23 forced the selectors to drop him from the ODI squad. Given that Pujara played against the teams like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh further undermines his ODI career.

Given that Pujara played against the teams like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh further undermines his ODI career.
Pujara has an average of 10.20 in 50-over cricket. With Virat Kohli holding the number 3 position in the Indian team right now, it is unlikely that he will ever get a chance to represent India in the One-Day Internationals ever. The 31-year-old played his last ODI versus Bangladesh in 2014.
