Team India has tasted a great deal of success under the supervision of head coach Ravi Shastri. The former cricketer inspired the team to scale greater heights and thought them to be fearless. The current skipper Virat Kohli was persistent about having Shastri at the top position in the team management. He went up to the extent that Anil Kumble had to be thrown out of the role to fit Ravi Shastri in.
Back then in 2017, the BCCI appointed Ravi as the head coach till the end of World Cup 2019. However, the former commentator seems to have no interest in quitting the job any time soon. Given that he is greatly backed by the players, Ravi Shastri is possibly hoping of having another stint with the team. He himself revealed that he is in no hurry to return to the commentary box.
‘Future is a mystery, past is a history’
Under the guidance of Ravi Shastri, Team India won its first Test series in 71 years while playing in Australia. Furthermore, it also clinched the first ODI series in the country as well as won an ODI series in New Zealand after 10 years. The complete focus of the 56-year-old is now on the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2019. Already having won the title as a player, the left-arm spinner will be hoping to do it again as a coach as well.
Clearly, he is in no mood to take up the commentator’s role even though he claimed that he can do it for another 50 years. Shastri earlier worked as a commentator for 23 years. While he hinted that he might continue with the team, he also said that the future is a mystery. Hence, he wants to live in the present and enjoy everything that is in store.
“I did it (broadcasting) for 23 years and can do it again for 50 more years, whenever I go back. I am in no hurry to return to the commentary box. Future is a mystery, and past is history. I shall live in the present. Present is a present from God, so I want to enjoy it,” Ravi Shastri said in an exclusive interview given to Cricbuzz.
