Even as Team India is fretting over the fitness of the key players in the ongoing Test series against Australia, the selectors are all set to pick the limited-overs squads for the upcoming series. The Men in Blue will be facing Australia and New Zealand in the next eight ODIs and three T20 Internationals. The ODI series against Australia will be commencing from January 12 after which they will travel to New Zealand soon.
MS Dhoni is set to return to the international arena for the first time since October and if the reports are to be believed, he will be picked in the T20I side as well. A lot was said when he was sidelined for the T20Is against Australia and Windies but the chief selector MSK Prasad had cleared then that this was not the end of the veteran in the shortest format. Moreover, the topic of discussion will be Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul who are likely to be dropped from both the squads.
World Cup probables to be picked
According to the reports in the Mumbai Mirror, the selectors will be picking the players who will be making it to the World Cup. If that is the case, then the ones who will be dropped from this series won’t make it to the showpiece event and the doors for others will also shut. Khaleel Ahmed, who came into the plans only recently hasn’t done too badly and is likely to retain his place.
It remains to be seen if Ravindra Jadeja is included after the way he made a comeback in the Asia Cup and played a vital role in the team’s title triumph. The other spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are always going to be the part of the side.
The number four conundrum is also solved now with Ambati Rayudu consistently performing in the middle-order and scoring runs at will.
