Rishabh Pant has a bundle of talent on his shoulder. However, he hasn’t been able to substantiate it enough. The southpaw made his T20I debut way back in February 2017 as a teenager and has an average of 20.31 in 20 matches. Leaving aside his two fifties versus the Caribbean side, Pant has 202 runs in 15 innings at a dismal average of 13.47.

He has often been guilty of throwing his wicket away. Despite his repeated failures, the Indian team management has iterated that he will be backed beeping an eye on the T20 World Cup next year.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson has found his way back into the national squad after he impressed for Kerala in the VHT trophy. It means that a few more poor outings could put the skids under Pant and also make the selectors revisit their plans with him.
