Ever since one of the legends of the cricket world MS Dhoni has walked out of the international cricket, there have been innumerable requests for his farewell match. However, former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has come up with something big and believes that PM of India might request the veteran cricketer to feature in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Akhtar shared his thoughts on Dhoni during a recent interaction where he also talked about the latter’s probable plans. On being asked whether captain cool should have played T20 WC, he called it as a player’s personal call.
“I think he could have played T20 cricket, he could have gone on to play the T20 World Cup. And the way India supports its stars, the way they love them and recognizes them, they would have played him in T20s. But it was his personal choice,” he said while speaking to a YouTube channel ‘BolWasim’.
Highlighting the fact that the Ranchi stalwart has all the ICC trophies in his pocket, Rawalpindi Express said the Indian team would always have high regard for him irrespective of his stint ahead even in IPL. “But again he has won everything, a person from Ranchi has rocked the whole of India, what else do you need. At the end of the day, the world should remember you. And a nation like India, they will never let you get forgotten,” Akhtar added.
MSD deserves a grand farewell, says Shoaib Akhtar
Shoaib Akhtar also felt that the entire nation owes him a grand farewell. However, MS Dhoni didn’t ask for any farewell according to former IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla. “India will be geared up to give him a farewell game, trust me. If he doesn’t want it, it is a different thing, but India will be ready. The whole stadium will be booked for him to play a couple of T20 matches and then go after that,” the 45-year-old further said.
Reiterating the fact how Pakistan player Imran Khan stretched his career on request of General Zia-ul-Haq, the speedster said that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi might request Dhoni to play the upcoming T20 WC.
“You never know, the Prime Minister may call him and request him to play the T20 World Cup. That is also possible. Imran Khan was asked by General Zia-ul-Haq not to leave cricket after 1987, and he played. You cannot say no to the Prime Minister,” he concluded.
