India’s star batsman Virat Kohli crosses 20 million followers on Facebook

Indian batting today revolves all around this guy Virat Kohli, as the Indian team gears up to play South Africa in their world cup match, it is expected to be a contest between the South African pace attack of Dale Steyn & co. vs Virat Kohli. The one that has the upper hand will lend advantage to the team.

Since he is more than just a player now, and on his way of becoming an icon there is a surge in his social popularity as well. December last year the number of followers that Virat Kohli had on his official twitter handle out-numbered Sachin Tendulkar’s and thus one could notice the sharp rise.

Friday was another special day for Virat as he is now the second most followed Indian sports star on the social media site Facebook and is just behind Sachin in terms of the number of likes his page has, yesterday it pulled over the 20-million fans mark.

Being specific Virat has 20,017,258 fans following his updates at the moment while the legend Sachin Tendulkar has 24,789,418 likes on his social media page.

Kohli who is second in India is ranked 20th globally, as his senior and the most followed Indian sportsperson Tendulkar is placed at the 13th spot in the list of sportsperson with highest followers by Facebook.

The list of sportsperson with most followers is led by Portuguese and Real Madrid Star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo who has the maximum, 107 million followers. He is far off competed by on field arch-rival Lionel Messi who plays for Argentina and Barcelona Football Club as he has 78 million fans on Facebook.

Virat has gone from 5 million last year to 20 million on facebook today, which is an extraordinary rate of climb and clearly emphasises his popularity and reach as a youth icon.
