India's victory in Australia one of the proudest moments for S Sreesanth

S Sreesanth might have lost narrowly from winning the Bigg Boss 12 title but the former Indian pacer is never short of making the headlines. Banned by the BCCI in 2013 over a spot-fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League, the former bowler has started making regular appearances on TV and has also acted in a film recently. Soon to turn 36, Sreesanth recently expressed a desire to work with legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg as a milestone in his TV and acting career.

Member of two world title-winning Indian squads led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2007 and 2011, Sreesanth came up with views on various issues, including India’s recent Test series win in Australia. When asked about his thoughts on the historic 2-1 victory Down Under, Sreesanth said as a former cricketer, it was one of his proudest moments. Sreesanth particularly congratulated Parthiv Patel, the only player from the recent Test squad who played the 2003-04 series in Australia under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly.

“Very well done Parthiv Patel. Because I remember Parthiv is senior when comes to cricket. Parthiv was part of a lot series. Much before I played, they played a series under Sourav Ganguly and we almost won the series, with the best team ever played then (Australia) with Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and all that. So being in this best generation team and winning a series in Australia was a dream come true,” Sreesanth said to Pinkvilla.

Parthiv though did not get to play any of the four games on this tour as current Test wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant played with style. Patel was just 18 when he played the 2003-04 series which Australia drew 1-1 with India.

The diminutive wicketkeeper had come under criticism in the four Tests on that tour for missing a chance to stump Steve Waugh, who was playing his last Test, and also sledging the latter to which Waugh had given a befitting reply.

“Very proud to say that I used to play a game called cricket which they have won. So I am very happy that being a cricket fan and being an Indian, it is one of the proudest moment for me,” Sreesanth, who took 169 international wickets for India, said.
