Vijay Shankar’s recent cricket endeavours
Shankar was a part of the Indian team for the 2019 edition of the World Cup in England and Wales. However, after he was ruled out due to an injury, he hasn’t gotten to don the Indian jersey again. In the 2020 IPL, he didn’t get to play a whole number of matches. In the T20 tournament, he only took part in seven games where he scored 101 runs and picked up four wickets.
His most impactful performance came against the Rajasthan Royals at the Dubai International Stadium. He scored an unbeaten 52, helping his team chase down 155 with 11 balls to spare. His knock off 51 balls was laced with six fours at a strike-rate of 101.96. In that match, he also picked up the crucial wicket of Jos Buttler, who could have done a lot of damage.
Recently, he played one match for Tamil Nadu, his state team, in the 2021 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. In the game against Jharkhand at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, he got run out after he scored only four.
In 12 ODIs and nine T20Is, Shankar has scored 324 runs with a top score of 46. With the ball, he has nine wickets. It remains to be seen whether or not Shankar makes his international comeback in the near future.
