India’s West Indies tour is set to start on July 22, it is learnt. The tour comprising three ODIs and five T20Is will be played in Trinidad and St Kitts before the teams fly to the United States for two T20Is to finish off the white-ball series.
It has been further reported that the 50-over fixtures will be conducted at Trinidad’s Queen Park Oval on July 22, 24 and 27 while the first T20I of the five-match series will be played at the Brian Charles Lara Stadium on July 29, followed by two back-to-back encounters at the Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis on August 1 and 2. The final two games of the series – also scheduled back-to-back – will be held in Florida on August 6 and 7.
“Those are the dates and the schedule will be announced once the clearance from the US comes. We are waiting for the sanctioning from the US,” a CWI official in the know of things told Cricbuzz on May 6. Meanwhile, much like India’s home T20I series against South Africa, there would likely be no to very few Covid protocols in place in this series. “The India series is still about three months away, but medical protocols will have to be adhered to as needed,” the CWI official said.
In a packed schedule following the conclusion of the 2022 IPL, India are set to play South Africa, Ireland, and England before the Caribbean tour. They face South Africa in five T20Is at home from June 9 to 19 before flying to Ireland for two ODIs in Dublin on June 26 and 28. That series will be followed by an all-format engagement against England, comprising a rescheduled Test, three T20Is and many ODIs from July 1 to 17, following which the team will fly to Trinidad on July 18, only four days before the scheduled start of the West Indies series.
“Two batches of Indian team (one comprising the Test specialists) are expected to leave for Ireland and England on June 20, after the five-match home T20I series against South Africa from June 9 to 19,” a Cricbuzz report mentioned.
