Indore curator reckons 3rd ODI pitch will suit Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav

The 2nd ODI between India and Australia at the Eden Gardens, saw the wrist-spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav wreak havoc, with the latter taking a hattrick. With the next ODI set to take place in Indore, the curator of the grounds, Samandar Singh Chauhan has revealed that the pitch is most likely to suit the spin duo, who are quickly emerging as extremely lethal. The 3rd ODI between India and Australia will kick off at the Holkar Stadium, Indore on September 24 (Sunday).

Having won the first 2 matches of the 5-match ODI series, India are in a comfortable position and will look to seal the series in their favour at Indore. Further, the Holkar Stadium holds good memories for the hosts as the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane had hit mammoth scores of 211 and 188 in the same innings respectively, against New Zealand in the first innings of the third Test at this very ground. The curator of the ground has ensured that the upcoming game will be a high-scoring game, with pitch particularly favouring wrist-spinners.

Indore Curator promises a high-scoring match

While speaking about how the pitch could be expected to behave for the 3rd ODI, Chauhan related, “We have used black cotton soil, brought from different parts of Madhya Pradesh. In this weather, it won’t crumble and it won’t be very dry. It has capacity to hold water but it will be good for the wrist spinners.”

According to basic technicalities, wrist spinners, unlike off-spinners, are independent of pitch conditions when it comes to putting up a good performance, but have the chance of becoming all the more dangerous if they get bounce from the turf.

He also assured that the match could be the first of the series to go into the relatively high scores. Although it had been said before the start of the series that 300-plus scores would be abundant, only 281 and 252 runs were scored at Chennai and Kolkata respectively.

“We had used this pitch for a two-day match between the players of our Ranji players. Ninety overs were bowled on both days on September 7 & 8 and good runs were scored. It should be a high scoring game,” said Chauhan.

Rain has been accompanying the Indian team, right from the start of the series. Indore has experienced incessant rain in the last few days and the ground was kept under cover for major part of Friday. However, Indore is equipped with a sound drainage system. When asked about the remedial measures for such conditions, Chauhan said, “We are equipped with three super soppers, 12 sump well — each having 60-feet deep boring and 48 100-feet borewells to make the ground ready.”
