IND vs SA: 5 Players to watch out from South Africa

South Africa have announced their squad for the 5-match T20I series against India starting 9th June. In preparation for the T20 world cup 2022, the Proteas would be looking to give adequate chances to youngsters against a strong Indian side at home before finalizing their squad for the multi-nation tournament. Here is a list of 5 players to be wary of from South Africa for the upcoming series: 1. Quinton De Kock: Quinton de Kock. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Indian fans are well aware of how destructive the southpaw can be. His record against the home team is pretty good and the experience of regularly playing IPL and knowing Indian conditions will certainly help. South Africa haven’t played a T20I since the World Cup last year and with another showpiece event lined up for this year in Australia, they will be looking to bank on the experienced players. De Kock will be hoping to continue his IPL form having scored 3 fifties and a century already in 14 games at a Strike Rate of 150. Despite being just 29 years old, De Kock is now a senior statesman in the side and part of the leadership group. With experience of leading the team and best view from behind the wickets, South Africa will need every bit of his experience to help their young attack against quality Indian batters. 2. Reeza Hendricks: Reeza Hendricks. (Photo Source: Twitter) The opener has been in and around the South Africa setup for sometime now. T20 is notably his preferred format and he has been providing some explosive starts in recent years. Reeza was the third highest run getter for Jozi Stars when they won the inaugural Mzansi Super League. This series could be an ideal opportunity to stake his claim as the first choice opener leading into the T20 World Cup in November. He has been in good form off late in the South Africa-A tour to Zimbabwe where he notched a 55-ball century. His aggressive intent in the powerplay could be an ideal foil for Quinton De Kock and the left-right combination can cause headache to the Indian new ball bowlers. 3. Tabraiz Shamsi: Tabraiz Shamsi. (Photo by Gareth Copley-ICC/ICC via Getty Images) The number one T20I bowler needs no introduction and his ability to spin the ball both ways always poses a challenge for any batter. Chinaman is in itself a rare breed and his ability to deceive the batter in the air has helped him constantly pick up wickets. Shamsi was once again effective in their domestic T20 league (CSA Super League) representing the Titans earlier this year. With the experience of playing in Indian conditions before, he could be a potential threat for the Proteas with the ball in the upcoming series. The T20 World Cup in 2021 was a very successful one for the spinner as he was the go-to man for Temba Bavuma whenever wickets were needed. Much the same will be expected this time if South Africa stand any chase of winning the series. 4. Anrich Nortje: A Nortje (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Anrich Nortje will be making a comeback to the South African side after recovering from injury sustained last year. He was in red hot form until then and will be hoping to repeat the same being the spearhead of their attack. Nortje is also an IPL regular and is another player who knows the strengths and weaknesses of Indian batters. His experience can also be helpful with respect to the line and length needed for Indian pitches. His 145+ pace can be a lethal weapon against the home side. IPL 2022 hasn’t been the best for Nortje. However, he would be happy that he has recovered from his injury and got playing time. Match practice and continuous bowling for the Delhi Capitals is a positive thing for him leading into the India series. 5. Marco Jansen: Marco Jansen. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Marco Jansen is yet to make his T20I debut for South Africa. His performances against India earlier in the year in tests would give him confidence when he faces them again in the upcoming series. He has been playing franchise T20 cricket for some time now and his ability to swing the ball with the left armer’s angle can cause trouble to right-hand batters. He recently got Virat Kohli out in a game for SRH against RCB where he returned with figures of 3/25 in 4 overs. Jansen’s high release was difficult to deal with for the Indian batters in the recently concluded test series and his ability to clock 140kmph adds to his armory. Although he could improve on his death bowling, with more experience of playing T20s now in the IPL with Sunrisers he seems ready for the challenges ahead.
