Bangladesh received a major blow on the first day of the 2nd Test match after their opening batsman Imrul Kayes suffered a blow below the knee while fielding in the slip cordon. It has been believed that he won’t be available on the second day’s play as well. Imrul rushed back to the pavilion after the lunch session. A delivery from Mustafizur Rahman kissed Aiden Markram’s bat and leapt just in front of Imrul.
Medical assistance was provided on quick time but the fielder couldn’t recover from the blow and eventually had to leave the field with the physiotherapist. The visitors are concerned about the injury. Earlier opener Tamim Iqbal was ruled out from the 2nd Test match due to an injury.
South Africa piled up big runs in the first day of the 2nd Test. Dean Elgar continued his rich form with a hundred. Aiden Markram also scored a hundred before getting cleaned up by pacer Rubel Hossain for 143. The opening duo put on a 243-run stand. Hashim Amla was batting at 89 and skipper Faf du Plessis was on 69 at stumps.
Bangladesh hope for a change in fortune
Bangladesh are desperate to level the series after suffering a 333-run defeat in the 1st Test match. The visiting team’s batsman Mahmudullah had said ahead of the 2nd Test that they are optimistic and will look to make an impression.
“We are disappointed,” Mahmudullah said.”The pitch was good but we couldn’t bat the way we wanted to. We made a lot of silly mistakes. But I am very confident that we will bat better in the second Test, whatever the wicket is. I am sure we can make a comeback.” he added.
“It is only natural that conditions will be in the home side’s favour. We are here after a long time. But if we look at the New Zealand tour. where Shakib [Al Hasan] got the double-hundred and Mushfiqur [Rahim] made 150-plus, we should get confidence from it. We believe that our skills are good enough if we can execute it.” he said.
