With Bangladesh and their tour of New Zealand already going as badly as it is, the visitors are on the verge of losing three of their key players for the upcoming Test series as well. Left-handed opening pair Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes are reportedly injured themselves while playing for the side in the limited overs’ series.

Dean Conway, the physio for the Bangladesh cricket team went on to confirm that an X-Ray had been done on Mashrafe Mortaza’s thumb and might also be required to wear a caste as he makes his way towards his recovery. Conway believes that he will be out for at least four to six weeks.

Bangladesh physio Dean Conway said: “Mashrafe had an X-ray done immediately after the match and the report has confirmed a fractured right metacarpal. Recovery is expected to take between four to six weeks and will be followed by a short rehab. The injured area will be put in a caste as he recovers.”

“The thumb is sore but the X-ray has come clear. We will review his condition after 48 hours,” said Conway.

Conway also went on to add that both openers Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal had also suffered injuries in recent times. Tamim Iqbal, who also happens to be Bangladesh’s highest run-getter across all three formats also has a thumb injury to his left hand. However, it is reportedly not as serious as the one suffered by Mortaza.

Imrul Kayes hit the digital board while fielding in the previous match and also injured his knee. Although Kayes has not gone in for a scan, he will be assessed in the next 48 hours whether he can go ahead and feature in the first Test or not. The first Test will be played in Wellington.
