Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have five wins in 11 league matches and are at seventh position in the IPL 2022 points table. In order to reach the playoffs, they need to win their remaining games by a big margin. Currently, they are up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MCA Stadium, Pune. Ahead of the match, former Indian cricketers Wasim Jaffer and Mohammad Azharuddin discussed the form of SRH.

Jaffer thinks the injuries have troubled the team throughout the season, with Washington Sundar and T Natarajan missing most of the matches this season. Meanwhile, both these players have returned in the ongoing fixture, with Natarajan even taking a wicket in his second over. Jaffer further added that captain Kane Williamson needs to return to his natural form and cannot bat at a strike rate of around 100.

“The injury issues have troubled the team, with T Natarajan and Washington Sundar being unavailable at the important stage of the tournament. The injuries of both these players have hurt them quite a lot. Plus, Kane Williamson’s form has been a little questionable. A big player like him is not scoring runs at the top and need to turn the table around quickly, otherwise, it’s difficult,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

SRH have been disappointing: Mohammad Azharuddin

Azharuddin reckoned that Sunrisers have been disappointing this season, and the team can’t give an excuse of the unavailability of some of their players. He further felt that only Nicholas Pooran has been consistent with the bat while others have been quite average.

“Very disappointing, they were playing quite well, but then a slump came in their performances. You can’t give an excuse for the two players being injured; it can happen in a game and players also return to the field as well. I thought they had a very good side, but only Nicholas Pooran has been consistent. The team selection is certainly debatable, but they are playing with the best resources available,” said Azharuddin.
