The Independence Day Cup scheduled, later this month, between the World XI team and the Pakistan national team is already creating a buzz in the minds of thousands of cricket fans all over the world. It is also a great occasion for the home country as finally, international cricket is making a return after 8 long years. Many big T20 names will be a part of the event to support the noble cause. Former England cricketer Bob Willis expressed his views on international cricket returning to the lovely country of Pakistan.
After successfully hosting the final of the Pakistan Super League earlier this year, Pakistan Cricket Board are confident enough of hosting more international matches in the near future. The board has also ensured that they will be providing a ‘Presidential level’ of security to the players and all the fans are hoping for it to be a success. Former English fast bowler Bob Willis feels that the return of international cricket in the subcontinental nation can help the growth of the sport in the coming years. Willis stated that the World XI series is a huge event and homecoming for the millions of cricket fans in Pakistan.
“It’s huge. There are obviously huge security fears around the world at every sporting event these days but if the players are looked after presidentially then I think it is important to get back to Pakistan as soon as we can. These games look like a promising stepping stone,” said Bob Willis.
Pakistan have not played too bad
Due to security concerns and various other reasons for the past few years, Pakistan have adopted the United Arab Emirates as its home and have performed well there. “Pakistan has not played too badly at all in their adopted home of the Emirates but the local Pakistani fans have been deprived of watching their heroes up close and I’m sure the players miss performing in front of such a passionate audience,” added Willis.
Willis also praised the hotels, accommodations and the pitches of Pakistan and wished that the event will be a huge hit and the players would have a good time in the beautiful country. “The hotels in Pakistan are better than they used to be and the pitches are good. Touring Pakistan is an experience every cricket player should enjoy so let’s hope those opportunities become more and more prominent,” he concluded.
