International umpire to stand at TNCA first division league game

Indian Cricket will witness the very first international umpire who would be standing in a domestic game

It is a well-renowned fact about the quality of cricket of TNCA first division league provides and therefore have attracted all the top players from the country to feature in the league. For the first time, Indian Cricket will witness the very first international umpire who would be standing in a domestic game. In a game between Jolly Rovers CC and UFCC (T. Nagar) at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Lachlan Rutherford, 24, has flown in from New Zealand to officiate in India.

Lachlan coming from a family of cricketers, a Nephew of former New Zealand captain Ken Rutherford while his dad Ian Rutherford who played First Class cricket for a decade, Rutherford. Even though his cricketing career didn’t flourish much, he still found a way to be associated with the sport. The New Zealander who has given his Level-4 exam will be eligible to officiate in First Class cricket if he clears it.

Rutherford excited about featuring in the match

“I have always loved cricket and wanted to have a career in cricket, like my family. Unfortunately, I injured both my shoulders and so chose to umpire,” commented Lachlan Rutherford according to an interview with The Hindu. “I have an Indian friend Mohit who is from Chennai and coached my brothers back in New Zealand. I wanted to umpire overseas and do something new so I contacted him to check if there was anything in India and we started talking in January.” added the Kiwi.

“Northern Districts are helping me with funds to come here and gain experience.” quoted the Kiwi umpire, expressing his excitement to feature in the TNCA league. On being asked about the things he would wanna take back home, “Mostly dealing with the heat. At times it can get a bit hot back home. So if I can maintain steady focus throughout the day and through four days, that will be ideal.” concluded the New Zealander.
