Royal Challengers Bangalore’s campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 ended with a four-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in Eliminator on Monday (October 11). It was indeed a heart-breaking defeat as Virat Kohli’s men were on a roll throughout the season. Having won nine of the 14 games, RCB finished the league stage at the third position. Many even believed the side will end its trophy drought this year.
However, KKR dented their plans in the knock-out clash. As RCB can’t go any further in the competition, all the focus is on the next season. The franchise owners indeed have some big decisions to make as Virat Kohli won’t lead the side next season. Also, a mega auction will take place which would see teams retaining just a few players.
Besides Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers has been one of the most prolific performers for RCB over the years. Hence, many believe RCB must retain the former South African captain. However, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg is not of the same opinion. With the Proteas dasher turning 38 next February, Hogg believes it would be risky investing in him.
RCB may put AB de Villiers in auction pool: Brad Hogg
Hogg expressed his views after a netizen urged RCB to give the leadership responsibility to De Villiers with Kohli stepping down.“If you want to play ab de Villiers in RCB you should know how to use him not like no 5 or no 6. 2nd thing Virat Kohli step down from the captaincy so handover to ab de Villiers without any doubt otherwise leave him I mean release him so the other team can buy and take the benefit,” wrote the fan.
Contradicting the statement, the former Aussie cricketer said retaining AB de Villiers would be risky as the batter himself isn’t sure about his future. Hence, it would be wise for RCB to land him in the auction and get him for a decent price.
“De Villiers is unsure of his future so making a long term investment on him would be risky for #RCB now. RCB maybe wise to put him back in the auction pool this year & try your luck on getting him for a bargain. Nothing about ability it is more about his desire to play #IPL2021,” tweeted Hogg.
