Rashid Khan, the prolific young leg-spinner from Afghanistan has earned the reputation as one of the finest turners of the ball actively operating in international cricket. In a recent interview, he recalled an instance when Inzamam-ul-Haq got angry back in 2015 when he was on his first international tour to Zimbabwe.
The short heightened spinner made his international debut at the age of 19 in 2015 and since then has become a formidable part of his national side. He is rated as one of the most dangerous spinners, who has spun the web around best batsmen across the world.
So far, he has grabbed 245 wickets across all the formats. Moreover, he is one of the most sought after bowlers in franchise cricket which is no surprise as he is one of the biggest match-winners.
Rashid Khan recalls an instance from his debut tour to Zimbabwe
In a BBC podcast ‘The Doosra’, Rashid Khan recalled an instance while he was on his maiden tour to Zimbabwe with the then Afghanistan coach, Inzamam-ul-Haq. The 21-year-old, on the tour, told his coach that people rate him as a T20 specialist but not for the ODIs.
After listening to the same, the former Pakistan skipper got angry and said that he was wasting his time until now. Moreover, Inzamam-ul-Haq also promised him that he will always be his first preferred player in his team until he is the coach. “Until I am the coach you will be in my team, I am here for 2-3 years and you will be the main player and be the 1st one to be picked in the team.”
Rashid also recited about the dangerous T20I batsmen across the globe. He didn’t take any single name but said that it is quite dangerous to bowl against the West Indies batsmen as their mis-hit also goes for a boundary. As per him, Hardik Pandya also bats in the same fashion which is unbelievable.
“West Indies players, they are so dangerous. Even their miss-hit goes for a boundary. Hardik Pandya also, the way he hits unbelievable. They are dangerous in T20Is,” Rashid added.
