Inzamam-ul-Haq lashes out at Misbah-ul-Haq for giving captaincy to Babar Azam
All the Pakistan team can do now is to erase the baggage of the last two months' misery and step on to the field with a new belief, along with the new skipper.
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was vividly upset and angry on the decision of handing over captaincy to Babar Azam for the all-important Australia tour. Babar Azam, who is currently the world’s no. 1 T20I batsman, was appointed T20I captain replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed for the tour Down Under, after the historic home series defeat against Sri Lanka.
The T20I series did not go well for Pakistan as they were whitewashed at home and the scoreline showed 3-Nil to Sri Lanka. Pakistan not only lost the series but also the belief in their captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was quickly replaced, even after a 2-0 win in the ODIs. The T20I series was Sri Lanka’s first win after seven unsuccessful attempts on foreign soil.
Inzamam-ul-Haq disappointed
Sarfaraz Ahmed was not only removed as captain but also dropped from both the T20I and Test squads that flew to Australia. While acknowledging the debacle and lack of confidence in Sarfaraz, former Pakistan captain and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said that replacing captain and tweaking with the squad was never an option before a difficult tour like Australia.
Inzamam was shocked by the decision of current Pakistan’s chief selector and former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, he said, “Giving the captaincy to Babar Azam, who is a completely new captain, I don’t think in Pakistan’s history that a team has gone to Australia with a new captain and team,” Inzamam said as quoted by Pak Passion.
Despite Pakistan’s miserable loss in the T20I series against Australia, Babar Azam’s performance was the only positive thing as the skipper scored 115 runs from his three outings at an average of 57.50.
Azhar Ali will lead the Test team for the two-match series starting from 15th November. The Test team includes a new set of players as they have picked three teenager pacers (Naseem Shah, Muhammad Musa, Shaheen Afridi) in the Test squad. Newly formed Pakistan Test team has shown glimpses of their potential where they put on a splendid display with both bat and ball in the 3-day practice match.
All the Pakistan team can do now is to erase the baggage of the last two months’ misery and step on to the field with a new belief, along with the new skipper.
