Virat Kohli had a pretty mediocre tour of England, especially in Tests, the last time India visited the British Isles back in 2014. As a cricketer, he has grown leaps and bounds and has refurbished his skills to a large extent. After four years, the Delhi-born cricketer will again take the field versus England, but this time as a skipper as well. In a bid to get himself prepared, he signed for Surrey to play county cricket.

However, it didn’t happen owing to his neck injury which ruled him out of the event. Nevertheless, he reckoned the same to be a blessing in disguise. He has racked up a plethora of records over the past few years and former Pakistai cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that a few lackluster performances don’t reduce his value as one of the all-time greats of the illustrious sport.

“England needs to be wary”- Inzamam

“There is no doubt in my mind that Virat Kohli is a great player and his performances are proof of this fact. Just because he has not been able to score heavily in England does not undermine his stature as an all-time great batsman. If he is not able to put in a good performance in one or two innings, then that does not in any way reduce his stature as a player,” Inzamam was quoted as saying in Sky Sports.

“We know that he works hard and he continues to learn day-by-day and we saw that proof in the manner he played in South Africa where he helped his side lift their game,” he added while putting forth Kohli’s successes owing to his hard work.

India will lock horns with the Brits today in the first T20I at the Old Trafford in Manchester, which marks the start of their campaign. Inzamam also warned that the hosts to be careful against the class and caliber of the Indian captain.

“Despite the fact that he may not have a good past record there, England need to be wary that a player of Virat Kohli’s quality can easily help his side win the upcoming series between the two sides,” the retired cricketer added.

Kohli played a couple of T20Is versus Ireland at the Malahide Cricket Ground a few days ago. Prior to that series, he was on the verge of becoming the first male Indian cricketer to 2000 T20I runs. Unfortunately, he couldn’t achieve that, but will again have the chance to accomplish the same.
