Hard-hitting young Indian batsman Rishabh Pant has carved a name for himself with a thunderous knock against Gujarat Lions. There was no doubt about his ability with the cricket bat among the ones who knew him or had played against him. But the knock against Gujarat Lions has solidified his claims as the next big thing in Indian cricket. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan also looked mighty impressed with the knock played by the young man.
Playing against the Lions, Delhi Daredevils were set a target of 208 to breach. It was a daunting task but the young Delhi batsman rose to the occasion with a stunning performance. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant joined hands for a sublime 143 run stand that came off just 63 balls on the day. Both batsmen reached their fifties. Samson perished soon afte reaching the landmark but Pant went on for long.
Pant plundered a thunderous 97 with the bat before being dismissed by Basil Thampi. He was miffed with his own shot that led to his dismissal. A century was there for the taking. It was a widish delivery from Thampi. Pant tried to latch on to it but ended up getting a faint outside edge. Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik completed the rest by taking a decent catch.
Gujarat Lions skipper walked up to Rishabh Pant to console him as he missed out on the century. Pant ended up with 97 to his credit in 43 balls with 9 sixes and 6 boundaries. He drew praises from all corners. The one that stood out from the rest was from Amitabh Bachchan.
The actor took to micro blogging site Twitter to express his happiness about the innings. He lauded the efforts of Pant and quoted that the knock meant more than a hundred for the fans. In his tweet, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “T 2414 – UFFFFFFF !! what an innings played by #Rishabhpant .. never mind the 100 .. for us it was more than that !!”
