Delhi Daredevils registered their fourth win of the season riding on superlative knocks from Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. With the win over the Gujarat Lions, the Daredevils are now still in the contention for the playoffs. In the match, they were set a huge target of 208 to win. The target looked daunting and need some hitting to overhaul it. Samson and Pant added a herculean 143-run stand in mere 63 deliveries to set the base for the win.

Both batsmen got out after registering their fifties but their partnership ensured the Daredevils won by 7 wickets. Pant plundered 97 runs off just 43 balls and Samson hit 61 off just 31 balls on the day. After the game, Sanju Samson spoke to iplt20.com about the game plan the two youngsters had. He commended the words of Rishabh Pant that encouraged him to continue hitting.

“Bhaiya jyada socho mat, bas maro (don’t think too much, just hit), I think that really helped me to go on. Enjoyed batting with him (Pant),” Samson quoted about Pant.

Also, in the post match presentation, Rishabh Pant had reflected back at the same and had admitted that he asked Samson to go for the cleaners. The two batsmen showed pure class as they displayed some masterful hitting of the cricket ball.

“I told Sanju bhai, if the ball is there to hit, just hit it. Don’t think about the next ball. If the next ball is there to hit, then again hit the ball,” Pant had quoted.

And the mentor was pleased too

While the players were happy, there was one more man who was mighty pleased. Delhi mentor Rahul Dravid expressed his happiness over the way Pant and Samson won the game for the team. He, however, added that he wants the two players to remain unbeaten and finish the matches in the coming days.

“What was impressive for me was Rishabh – batting on 97 and not thinking about his 100 at that stage and still going for his shots. (He was) not worrying about the 100 and (was) looking to get the team home. Incredible innings from the two boys and truly well deserved. I am a hard task master (and) I hope that you guys will next time finish the job and stay not out,” quoted Rahul Dravid.
