The Rising Pune Supergiant have received a major blow in their campaign this season. Star batsman Faf du Plessis has left the squad to join the national team South Africa for their preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy. Well, the news has not been a surprise for everyone as the team management knew they would have to part ways from Faf at some stage of the tournament.
South Africa are scheduled to take on England in a 3-match ODI series that starts on May 24. They also have a couple of warm up fixtures expected to be played on May 19 and May 21. The tour is slated to be the preparatory grounds for the English and the Proteas team leading into the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Other South African players in the IPL are also likely to head back to South Africa in the coming days.
The likes of AB de Villiers, Kagiso Rabada, and David Miller will soon be parting ways with their respective franchises this season for the same reason. Meanwhile, the Rising Pune Supergiant might not feel the absence of Faf du Plessis at the moment. They have a very settled lineup that has won 6 out of their previous 7 encounters. Needless to say, they are on a roll and are looking good for the playoffs.
However, in the days to come, their star all-rounder Ben Stokes will also leave the team for the national duties and that is the time when they will feel the absence of key overseas players. For the stats, Faf du Plessis played only two matches this season in the RPS colors. He got his opportunity to bat only once and ended with a score of 8. Faf took to social media to announce his departure from India.
He wrote, “This is what happens when u leave India…cake in ur face.”
