IPL 10: Marlon Samuels to join Delhi Daredevils as replacement of Quinton de Kock
Prior to this, Marlon Samuels was a part of the now-defunct franchise Pune Warriors in 2012 and the 2013 edition of the tournament.
The Delhi Daredevils have roped in the services of veteran West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2017. Samuels has been named as the replacement of wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock. The South African promising star had to bow out of the tournament prior to the commencement of the tournament this year.
The IPL Media Advisory released the official press release confirming the news. They noted that Samuels will be the part of the Delhi roster with immediate effect in the coming fixtures for the franchise. In the past, Marlon Samuel has played for one other IPL franchise.
The press release stated, “Delhi Daredevils have signed West Indies all-rounder, Marlon Samuels as a replacement for the injured Quinton de Kock for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. De Kock, the South African wicketkeeper-batsman, was ruled out due to injury ahead of the season. A veteran of 71 Tests, 187 One-Day Internationals, and 55 T20Is, Samuels has played for one IPL franchise in previous editions.”
The addition of veteran batsman like Samuels looks like a very smart move made by the Daredevils camp. The Delhi batting lineup looks very fragile on paper with not much experience to boast about. The likes of Karun Nair and Aditya Tare are apparently the most experienced batsmen in the lineup after Angelo Mathews. Now, with Samuels added to the list, the team would hope to have some stability in their armory.
Prior to this, Marlon Samuels was a part of the now-defunct franchise Pune Warriors in 2012 and the 2013 edition of the tournament. He featured for the Pune franchise in 10 matches across the two seasons. He had a cumulative of 132 runs in those fixtures and had bagged a total of 9 wickets.
Talking about his achievements, he has been the man of the finals for the World Cup winning West Indies team on two occasions. In the recent times, he has served his trade in the Bangladesh Premier League and the Pakistan Super League. He has played 149 matches in the T20 format of the game. He has 3757 runs to his name with 2 centuries to boast about.
