Sunrisers Hyderabad hosted the Delhi Daredevils in the 21st game of the IPL 2017 atRajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Earlier tonight, David Warner won the toss and elected to bat. It was a Williamson-Dhawan show almost through the entirety of the SRH innings. Kane Williamson made a strong statement for himself after he was allowed to warm the benches in the first five matches for his team. He smashed 51-ball 89 at an explosive strike-rate of 174.5. His five sixes in the innings stood out in the match. The Kiwi matched up his maximums with six screaming boundaries.

Shikhar Dhawan showed his class with an important inning of 70 off 50 balls with 7 graceful boundaries and one majestic six. A mini-cameo from Henriques propelled the Sunrisers score to 191. The only shining star in the bowling line-up was Chris Morris as he picked up a four wicket haul by conceding only 26 runs, where other bowlers went for plenty. The Daredevils came out to bat with their tasks cut out. Sanju Samson and Karun Nair consolidated the innings with early loss of Sam Billings. Karun Nair looked in some sort of form after his dusty patch off late. He scored an important 33, playing the supporting act for Samson’s fluent 42. After losing three wickets in a hurry, Iyer and Matthews took it upon themselves to chase down the total of 192.

Shreyas Iyer starred down the order with his half-century off 31 balls at a strike rate of 163. In the end, it proved to be too much for the visiting team with 24 needing off the last over. Delhi Daredevils face their third loss in the tournament as they fell short of the required target by 15 runs. Sunrisers continue to dominate as they picked up their fourth win in the tournament. Kane Williamson was adjudged as the man of the match for setting up the match for Hyderabad.

Kane Williamson

The Kiwi skipper was finally relieved to get a game after sitting out on five occasions previously.  Kane further described what he does the best while batting. Williamson also pointed out that it was difficult for him to get into the playing XI with a niggle.

Nice to get a game. The guys have been doing really well, fortunate to get a game. The conditions were good and important that we got a good score batting first. Partnership was the key and guys really carried it well towards the end. I was trying to play the situtation as well as I could. I suppose once the platform was built it was to increase the run rate. Partnership with the ball in hand, fielding is equally important. I just had a little niggle, probable not gonna do the team too much with the niggle I had.

David Warner

The Hyderabad skipper yet again lauded the efforts of the team and pointed out Williamson’s effort with the bat while mentioning about the supporting act of Dhawan. He also commended the efforts of the Indian pacers. Warner concluded by his customary gesture to the crowd who showed up in their home game.

It was an outstanding performance from the guys. Kane played brilliantly and laid the platform for us. Some time people miss out on few guys, but they know that it’s just to make sure that we get the right balance. We knew we wanted to keep wickets in hand and that’s what exactly and Kane and Shikhar did tonight. For us it is about backing ourselves and executing our plans. That’s what I ask the guys to do, to come out and give their 100 percent. Bhuvi was exceptional and Kaul was superb tonight. It’s challenging tournament and credit to all the fast bowlers for keeping fit. For us batters, it’s easy. Thanks to the crowd for the support.

Zaheer Khan

Daredevils captain remarked that it was another incredible game of cricket where they could not end up on the winning side. Zaheer took the blame on himself for leaking way too many runs in the ultimate over of the match. He was all praises for the Purple Cap holder Bhuvaneshwar Kumar who has been fantastic this season for the Sunrisers. When asked about the turning point of the match, he cited that such things happen on-field.

Another great game of cricket. Unfortunate not to finish on the right side but am happy with the way the team is shaping up. I thought 180 was ideal but the last over I bowled is going to hurt me. Bhuvi has been fantastic and the lengths he has been bowling have been really good. (On Karun’s run-out) Such things happen in the heat of the situation. We need to get onto a winning roll in the tournament. Momentum is very important in situations like these and I hope we have one final roll left in us.

Sunrisers move on to the 2nd position in the IPL Table with 8 points, while Daredevils remain 4th on the table with 4 points. Both teams move to Maharashtra next. Sunrisers will take on Rising Pune Supergiant on 22nd April, whereas Delhi would look to upset Mumbai Indians at their own fortress the next day.
