The 10th edition of the IPL has already seen quite a few instances of betting scams being busted in various parts of the country. While most of the betting rackets have had nothing to do with the involvement of players, the most recent one busted in Kanpur might bring some infamy to the tournament. As per the recent reports in OneIndia.com, the suspected arrested by the Police in Kanpur have taken the names of two players from Gujarat Lions who apparently agreed to throw away the match.

The police recently arrested 3 bookies from a hotel in Kanpur. They found cash amounting to almost INR 41 lakh and multiple cell phones from the suspects. The three men arrested by the police have been identified as Ramesh Nayan Shah, Vikas Chauhan, and Ramesh Kumar. Ramesh Nayan Shah is a businessman from Thane, Maharashtra. The other two suspects are the natives of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Now, the BCCI has issued a statement stating that the Uttar Pradesh crime branch has successfully foiled the alleged betting attempts. However, the text messages exchanged between the bookies revealed some dark issues.

Two of the Gujarat Lions players apparently agreed to do whatever would be asked them to do. Also, the messages revealed that the Gujarat Lions would lose even if they score in excess of 200. Incidentally, in the match at Kanpur between the Lions and the Delhi Daredevils, the Lions lost after scoring a mammoth 195.

BCCI Statement:

“The anti-corruption unit of the BCCI has been tracking activities of certain individuals, as a result of which, three suspects were arrested in Kanpur, on Thursday. The Uttar Pradesh police crime branch could successfully foil the alleged betting attempts of the accused. This was an outcome of the ACU of the BCCI, having worked closely with various law enforcement agencies, who will continue further investigations, in this matter,” the BCCI statement read.
