IPL 10: Zaheer Khan likely to miss Gujarat Lions encounter

There seems to be no respite for the Delhi Daredevils this season. Their skipper Zaheer Khan has not been a part of the last two games for the franchise in the previous two matches of the season. It has been the hamstring injury that has kept him out of action for close to 5 days now. The team has had a mixed bag of time in his absence in the last two matches.

Delhi Daredevils were led by young batsman Karun Nair in his absence. The first match as a captain for Karun Nair was a nightmare. Playing against the Kings XI Punjab, the Delhi camp was bundled out for a paltry 67 in the match. Their embarrassment did not end just there. The KXIP batsmen then inflicted a heavy 10 wicket defeat in the runchase.

The second game, however, was a much improved performance for them. All young batsmen chipped in with crucial starts in the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Delhi. Chasing 186 to win against the strong SRH bowling attack, all batsmen rose to the occasion to help the team get back to the winning ways. Delhi Daredevils won the match by 6 wickets.

The win in the game now sees them back in the contention for the playoffs. The DD team now needs to win all their remaining 5 fixtures to ensure that they qualify for the playoffs. However, the availability of their regular skipper Zaheer Khan remains unknown. Their next fixture is against the Gujarat Lions at their home venue at the Feroze Shah Kotla in Delhi.

As per the recent reports in the Zee News, the spokesperson of the Delhi camp has confirmed that the possibility of Zaheer Khan playing the match against the Gujarat Lions in minimal. In case Zaheer does not regain fitness for the game, Karun Nair will continue to lead the side. “We will continue to monitor Zaheer Khan on a day-to-day basis. There is no further update,” the spokesperson quoted.
