IPL 2016 Auction Analysis: Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad were one of the few teams that went into the auction with a strategy. The way they executed their strategy is quite commendable. They exactly knew what they wanted and got that without beating around the bush. Be it getting Yuvraj Singh, who will bring the much-needed stability to their wobbly middle-order, or picking Ashish Nehra who will add teeth to their bowling line-up, SRH got most of their picks spot on.

They picked Deepak Hooda, who showed glimpses of incredible hitting skills last season with Rajasthan Royals and recently in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well. Other Indian picks such as Aditya Tare, Barinder Sran and Tirumalasetti Suman add depth to their squad. They mean business and will be looking to get their maiden trophy this year with the kind of squad they have assembled.

Their squad before the auction lacked some depth in the middle order and another striking bowler to compliment with Trent Bould and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. In Ashish Nehra and Sran they’ve covered that base. Moreover, they’ve picked the youngster Mustafizur Rahman, who impressed one and all in the ODI series vs India and South Africa.

Their batting looks solid, with David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan at the top followed by Kane Williamson, Yuvraj and Moises Henriques. They look a solid side and will be in title contention this season. A lot will though depend on how consistently can Yuvraj, the apple of the eye for Indian cricket fans for the last decade and a half, deliver the goods.
