The homecoming for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is not proving to be a fairytale for them off the field as there are a lot of protests going on outside the Stadium in Chennai. The political parties in Chennai had demanded to shift the IPL matches out of the city following the Cauvery water issue. They had also warned of protesting outside the ground if their demands were not accepted. However, the tensions are flaring ahead of the game as Chennai police have arrested 10 members of Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) party.
They were trying to enter the MA Chidambaram Stadium in their hands ahead of the match between CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday. They aimed to enter through the main gate of the Stadium with black flags in their hands. The police personnel, however, prevented them from proceeding further and eventually were taken into the custody. The security has been already beefed up for the match as there is a possibility that the protests might extend during the match as well.
We have taken all the measures
The security has been increased at CSK’s team hotel ahead of the game as the police also had a layered security cordon thrown around the ground. Also, all the security is being supervised by Additional Commissioner of Police M.C.Sarangan, three joint commissioners and 13 deputy police commissioners.
“We have taken all measures to maintain law and order and ensure the match is held in a peaceful manner. The spectators will be allowed inside the stadium only after thorough frisking,” the senior police official was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
Meanwhile, mobile phones have been banned in the Stadium as the police have taken extra measures in the ongoing game to prevent any untoward incidents during the match.
