IPL 2018: 5 Most expensive player retentions
The amount paid by the franchises to these players is colossal but they deserve one bit of it.
2. MS Dhoni – CSK: Rs. 15 Crore
Chennai Super Kings had already announced MS Dhoni as the captain of the team even before the retentions were finalised. The decision to retain him as the number 1 player of the franchise was a no-brainer. He has been the most successful captain of the tournament and has led CSK to the playoffs in all nine seasons before they were suspended. Even when he was in the players draft a couple of years, Rising Pune Supergiant paid him a whopping amount of Rs. 12.5 Crore and made him the skipper.
Dhoni too would feel coming back to home after being retained by CSK and now would want to win the third title for the franchise. So far he has won 83 matches as the skipper out of 143 matches and would look to achieve more as the leader of the pack. As the wicketkeeper-batsman, he has been magnificent scoring 3561 runs in 159 outings at an average of almost 38 and finishing the games 49 times. His strike rate of 136.75 after playing so many matches proves he is still the master of the cricket gamen.
