IPL 2018: 5 Players who can replace Pat Cummins for Mumbai Indians
Who will take the place of Pat Cummins?
Mumbai Indians has been hit with a massive blow after they lost their premium overseas pacer Pat Cummins, who was the important player for Australia in the recently concluded South Africa tour. Cummins’ workload doubled in the final Test of the series when Mitchell Starc pulled out of that game. He led the pact attack but Australians lost the game.
The doubled workload resulted in the back injury for the Aussie paceman. The Mumbai Indians franchise has to look for the perfect replacement the injured pacer. Mumbai Indians are aiming to get back to the winning ways and they need a replacement for Cummins to do that. We take a look at the five options who have a good chance to fill the pacer’s shoes.
Jhye Richardson
The Aussie paceman Jhye kept his base price at 50 Lakhs in the IPL 2018 Auction but he found zero bidders. He had a good season with the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. He averages 29.35 in the T20 format.
However, his economy is way expensive at 9.03. If Mumbai Indians pick him, he will have a chance to work on bowling economical spells under the leadership of Shane Bond and Lasith Malinga.
Lockie Ferguson
The New Zealand pacer made his IPL debut last year and caught many eyeballs with his stunning pace and performance. He played for Rising Pune Supergiant under the leadership of Steve Smith. He also holds the record of bowling the fastest ball of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians franchise has a good chance of picking Lockie as he has had a good season in 2017. He kept his base price at 75 lakh this season but there were no bids for him.
Adam Milne
Another New Zealand who has the experience of playing the IPL for RCB was unsold in IPL 2018 Auction after keeping his base price at 75 Lakhs. His average of 23.21 and economy of 7.77 will surely help him to replace the injured Pat Cummins.
Like Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne clocks 150kph and he will be a good option for the Mumbai Indians if they are looking for the extra pace. Milne has played a decent amount of cricket for his national team and finds a good chance to get into the MI side.
Junior Dala
Junior Dala was expected to get a big bid in the IPL 2018 Auction but his name didn’t come out as franchises opted not to go for him. He was the bowler of the T20I series against the recently concluded India’s tour of South Africa.
After the series, Kohli was seen having a chat with the pacer and there were the reports of RCB grabbing the paceman. But, Mumbai Indians can take a step ahead and grab the services of Junior Dala.
Sam Curran
Sam, the brother of Tom Curran has the ability to swing the ball. He’s yet to play for his national team but his addition in the MI side will be a decent option. However, his economy rate is way expensive above 8.
Alike Tom Curran, if his brother Sam gets a chance this season, both the brothers will join the league of many brothers who played the IPL. Under the watchful eyes of Shane Bond and Lasith Malinga, he has a good chance of doing well.
