IPL 2018, 5th Week: Five Players who disappointed this week

Another exhilarating week in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw some classy and outrageous cricket in action. Whilst the likes of Rishabh Pant, Jos Buttler and Ishan Kishan fall in the outrageous category, the likes of Kane Williamson, Prithvi Shaw, and Shikhar Dhawan showed their class. This week also saw one team confirm their place in the top 4 and they are none other than the Sunrisers Hyderabad. They extended their winning streak to 6 this season and looking well on course for their second IPL title. Led by the ever-outstanding Kane Williamson, they have been inexplicably brilliant this season. Whilst there were some heartening moments on one side, there was some agony on the other. Delhi Daredevils are virtually out of the tournament whilst the likes of RCB are literally hanging on the peripheral side of the edge. Some big players failed to impress the fans last week and that had a huge impact on their title chances. Here are the five big players who failed to help their side in a good way. 1. AB de Villiers AB de Villiers plays a shot. (Photo Source: Twitter) Many might be surprised looking at this name on the list, that too right at the top. But in the two games RCB played in the last week, AB de Villiers has failed to work his magic. He registered single-digit scores in two important games against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Chennai Super Kings. RCB’s fate is no more in their hands as far as their qualification scenario is concerned after these two losses. The manner of his dismissals was also very disappointing for the fans to witness. In the game against CSK, he completely lost balance attempting a reverse-sweep of Harbhajan Singh whilst Rashid Khan’s googly was too hard for him to pick in the next game. The RCB need him in good form very badly in the next few games is an understatement. 2. Mohit Sharma Kings XI Punjab. (Photo Source: Twitter) Coming as a replacement for the on-song Ankit Rajpoot, Mohit Sharma had big shoes to fill in the tie against the Rajasthan Royals. He bowled some good overs in the death in the first few games but has been very expensive. Same was the case with him in the previous game, which might lead to him getting expelled once again. He bowled just 3 overs in the game as another over from him would’ve cost KXIP a few runs extra. He currently doesn’t seem like having the captain’s trust, which is disappointing. KXIP management used their RTM card for him in the auction, which makes it even more disappointing for them. 3. (Photo by IANS) One of the best spinners in the country right now, Kuldeep Yadav is often praised for the way he mixes his variations and deceives the batters. But in the game against Mumbai Indians, he was a little too predictable with his bowling and got absolutely hammered to all parts by the youngster Ishan Kishan. Kishan was gleefully accepting every flighted delivery from Kuldeep and the latter kept bowling the same way. His lengths were too full to get ample turn and eventually, he conceded 43 runs in 3 overs. Kishan hit four sixes off four consecutive deliveries as well off Kuldeep, which might haunt the chinaman bowler a little bit. 4. Manish Pandey Manish Pandey & Yusuf Pathan. (Photo Source: Twitter) Another name a few might not consent with is Manish Pandey, who is currently a part of the most successful side this season. But his contribution has been very minimal, nowhere proportionate to the humongous amount which SRH is paying him. The only two games they lost was whilst chasing huge totals and Pandey was disappointing on both occasions. Many felt this is their weakness, but Dhawan and Williamson helped SRH chase a huge 188-run target with clinical ease last game, which puts a lot of doubts to bed. But Pandey’s contribution needs to be a lot higher with the bat as there’s no chance of him getting dropped just ahead of the knockout stages. 5. Ben Stokes Ben Stokes of Rajasthan Royals. (Photo by Twitter) Ben Stokes easily qualifies as one of the most productive cricketers of all time. In all departments of the game, he is a class act. But this season has been a huge disappointment for the English all-rounder, who is yet to announce his arrival in the league. With the bat, he scored just 174 runs in 10 games, which hasn’t been helping his side’s cause. He has been expensive with the ball as well. Stokes is usually considered to be a canny customer who can be brilliant in the death overs and thus far, Rahane is not considering him an option for the slog overs. If he can find some rhythm, not many can stop Rajasthan from entering the playoffs.
