IPL 2018: A fan runs into the dugout to touch MS Dhoni's feet
However, this is not the first time MS had such an experience.
There is nothing left to say about the colossal popularity of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In the last few years, he has announced his Test retirement and then stepped down as the ODI and T20I captain too. But nothing made a difference to his massive fan following.
We get to see it even more during the IPL season. MS Dhoni is the sole reason Chennai Super Kings get a considerable support in every stadium they play in. Chepauk was already a fortress to the team. But even after shifting base to Pune, the support has not wavered even a bit. Even in away matches, yellow flags occupy almost half of the stadium.
Fan rushes
On Thursday, May 3, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens once again saw the appeal of captain cool. A short video clip was uploaded by the official IPL T20 Instagram handle, where a fan ran into the field while the CSK vs KKR match was on to touch MSD’s feet.
It was just after the 11th over of the CSK innings. CSK was at 97/2, with Ambati Rayadu and Suresh Raina on the field. Dhoni was standing in the CSK dugout, leaning in to talk with Murali Vijay and coach Mike Hussey. The clip shows a young man running in and touching his feet, wearing a yellow jersey that said ‘Dhoni’ with his jersey number 7 in the back.
The captain was as usual completely cool about it. He patted the boy on the back before the security interfered and escorted the fan out of the field.

However, this is not the first time MS had such an experience. In fact, he should be quite used to it by now. Fans have run up to him on multiple occasions during a match to touch his feet or shake his hand. Even though it is very much against the security protocols, he never looked troubled or annoyed by such fans. He dealt with them calmly, as he would in any other situation.
Later, he once again went on in his trademark style to ravage the KKR bowling attack with a 43 off 25.
