IPL 2018: AB de Villiers feels that Sanju Samson is an exciting talent
Samson smashes 92 runs against RCB to help his side register a big victory.
The IPL 11 has started in great fashion with fans already witnessing many nail-biting finishes. Franchises have some exciting young talents in their ranks who can make significant contributions to the team. The likes of Nitish Rana, Mujeeb Rahman, Shubhman Gill and Sanju Samson are exciting prospects who have the capability of turning the game at any time.
The Rajasthan Royals have spent big at the IPL Auction 2018. The finished their full quota of 80 crores for the first time and made some big buys. However, a lot was dependent on Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson as they are seasoned IPL campaigners. Samson has looked in great touch in the last three games and has provided the team with valuable runs at a good strike rate.
Defining knock
Samson smashed 92 of 45 balls against RCB to take the total over 200. It proved to be too much for RCB as they failed to cross the target and lost the game, “Sunday’s defeat at home to RR was disappointing because, in so many ways, we weren’t far away from where we needed to be. The match probably turned when they scored 85 runs from their last four overs, and it was pity that we bowled two no-balls and both the free hits were sent into the stands for six; these are the details that matter,” wrote AB de Villiers, who is RCB’s third-highest run-getter in 2954 from 96 innings, in his column for TOI.
“Sanju Samson played a special inning for RR. I have stayed in contact with him by email for a few years now, and it is great to see an exciting young talent emerging in Indian cricket. How far can he go in the game? Believe me, there is no limit to his potential.” he added.
RCB have found it difficult to get the ball rolling in this year’s IPL and will need to sort things out so that they get a couple of wins under their belt. The team boasts of top international talents but fail to deliver results.
“It’s been said before and it will be said again: momentum is the key to success in the IPL. Win one match, and then another and suddenly the challenge seems more straightforward and more fun, and then you win again… and you advance with the magical M-factor,” he wrote. One win can help a team while one loss can be the start of the decline in the momentum.
RCB face MI in their next encounter and need to be at their best to beat the Men in Blue.
