IPL 2018: Amul presents Chennai’s winning picture
Chennai thumped SRH to win their third championship.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title and equalled Mumbai Indians (MI) as the team with three championships. The franchise thumped the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the Final and didn’t allow the opposition a foothold into the contest. The team didn’t have an overwhelming time in the last two years.
They were found guilty of being involved in betting and other scandals owing to which they were handed a suspension of a couple of years. In the first eight seasons, they qualified for the playoffs each and other time. Moreover, they also won the championship two times in 2010 and 2011 under the leadership of the enigmatic Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
CSK’s thunderous journey
However, in 2016 and 2017, they didn’t participate and hence players from the team represented some other franchises. In 2018, they were in with a tough ask of re-stamping their authority in the tournament and did it with sheer disdain. Their journey began on an auspicious note with some resounding performances. MS Dhoni looked at his vintage best, much to the joy of CSK.
In the last leg of the round robin phase, the Yellow Army stuttered but ensured that they stay put in their position between the top teams. In the first qualifier, Dhoni’s men thumped the Orange Army. Their backs were pushed to the wall, but some resolute batting in the death overs helped them to recover from a precarious position and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
In the Final, Shane Watson’s brilliant knock of 117 runs from 57 balls guided them past the finishing line. Following the victory, Amul, the Indian dairy cooperative, came up with a marketing campaign. They released an advertisement with the caption related to Watson. The picture also shows Dhoni carrying his son Ziva in his arms.
