The Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a moderate start, but Andre Russell and Nitish Rana’s power-hitting in the middle overs got them a score which was always match-winning on the Eden track. Although their run-rate was loitering around 8-8.5 before Russell walked in, it crept up over 10 thanks to his mind-boggling strokeplay.

One person who readily admitted that Russell’s blitzkrieg made the difference in the game was Delhi’s bowling coach Sridharan Sriram. He said that Russell’s innings caught Mohammed Shami off-guard and it was a match-winning knock from the Caribbean. He also added that the way they bowled to Chris Lynn in the Powerplay was fabulous.

“Russell’s blitz took the game away from us. We had done all the planning but couldn’t execute them. It was a match-winning inning…He made (Mohammed) Shami lose the plot for six-seven deliveries and that was enough for him to have a bad game, ”Delhi’s bowling coach Sridharan Sriram said.

“Rana wasn’t going to be as dangerous as Russell. Till Russell walked in, we were in the game; the way we bowled to Lynn was extraordinary but then Russell hit a couple of sixes…these things tend to happen,” he added.

We have to address the concerns immediately: Sriram

The Delhi Daredevils certainly are struggling with the ball this season. They’re leaking runs heavily in certain junctures of the game which is eventually costing them the whole game. After giving away just 19 runs in the first four overs against Kolkata, they conceded 31 runs in the next two overs which helped KKR getting back into the game.

Against Kings XI Punjab, they got slaughtered by KL Rahul and in the game against Mumbai at Wankhede, they conceded a whopping 84 runs in the Powerplay. Sriram suggested that these concerns should be addressed immediately and should be corrected.

“Against Kings XI Punjab, KL Rahul ran away with the game and against Mumbai Indians we went for 84. Tonight, after four overs for 19, we ended the power play at 50. So, it needs to be addressed and addressed very quickly,” he opined.
