Brendon McCullum is a very aggressive and dashing opener. He tears the opposition bowlers apart and sends shivers down their spines. He has got an absolutely fearless approach to his game and doesn’t mind going big over the ropes. The former Kiwi skipper was bagged by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.6 crores.

He gets teams off to a flyer and is an excellent option to have in the powerplays. On 27th January, McCullum must have experienced some mixed emotions. He would have felt bad because his team Brisbane Heat crashed out of the Big Bash League(BBL). At the same time, RCB bid for him and successfully brought him at the IPL auction.

McCullum excited to play alongside Kohli and de Villiers

McCullum earlier played for the Chennai Super Kings and was a crucial part of their plans. After CSK was suspended, he moved on to Gujarat Lions. Many expected CSK to use their RTM card for McCullum. But the Chennai franchise opted to exercise their RTM for Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis.

With the age not on his side, CSK might have had other plans for him. Although they initially seemed to be interested, they let him go once he crossed a certain price point. He is also losing his ability to provide the teams some lightening starts on a consistent basis in recent times.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore had no hesitations in getting him. They must have felt happy getting him at such a low price. McCullum might open the innings along with Quinton de Kock. This duo can definitely provide some lightening starts to the team. In all likely possibility, Virat will be back at the No.3 position for the RCB.

McCullum seemed very happy to be playing for the RCB. He tweeted that he always dreamt of playing along with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Indeed, his dream will finally turn into reality when he will don the RCB jersey for the first time this April.

Here is what McCullum tweeted:
